Meeting Community Needs

Meeting Community Needs

Continuing our commitment to provide programs that build a healthy Spirit, Mind and Body, the YMCA of Easley, Pickens & Powdersville works to serve the needs of the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Y worked side-by-side with community partners to meet the ever-changing needs of our friends and neighbors.

SENIOR CARE
Y staff delivered more than 200 care packages to community seniors, providing them with daily essentials as well as fun activities to get them through the crisis. Additionally, the Y Community Impact team created a Senior Buddy program, partnering more than 70 seniors with a Y staff member or volunteer and providing a connection to meet needs and form new relationships.

VIRTUAL FITNESS
Working remotely, Y coaches continued supporting our members, like LiveStrong at the YMCA and Pedaling 4 Parkinson’s participants, through virtual group support classes.

We have offered LIVE and On-Demand Group Wellness classes on our social media channels to encourage healthy and active lifestyles. Follow our Facebook pages (Easley YMCA, Pickens YMCA, Powdersville YMCA) for schedules and LIVE classes, and join our Group Wellness Facebook Groups to for On-Demand classes and additional content from our instructors (Easley YMCA Group Wellness, Pickens YMCA Group Wellness, Powdersville YMCA Group Wellness)

ESSENTIAL WORKER SUPPORT
Working with local businesses, the Y supplied meals and supplies to local hospitals, fire departments and police stations to show our thankfulness for their commitment to serving our community.

FOOD DELIVERIES
The Y has stepped up to deliver meals to families and students in need for Meals on Wheels and Concrete Primary School. Y staff have delivered an average of 7 weekly routes for Meals on Wheels, delivering nutritious meals and fun activities to these vulnerable community members. We have also worked closely with Concrete Primary, delivering bags of food to more than 30 students, and their families, each week.

PHYSICAL THERAPY
In partnership with Dosher Physical Therapy, the Y has provided an opportunity for members who would see a decline in mobility and health to see a physical therapist. The Y has referred more than 30 members to physical therapy, where they are receiving safe assistance, ensuring no one suffers the health consequences of immobility.
