The Tamassee Knob Trail is a scenic out-and-back hike located at Oconee State Park, near Mountain Rest, SC. This route follows the Foothills Trail before branching toward Tamassee Knob, offering forested paths and wonderful overlooks of the surrounding Blue Ridge foothills. The trail is narrow in places with a few steep drop-off sections, so watch your footing and take your time on some of the uneven terrain. The reward at the top is a lovely viewpoint and the chance to soak in expansive mountain scenery.

Navigation: Trail is marked, but a GPS app or map is helpful to stay on the correct route.
Footwear & Gear: Hiking boots or sturdy trail shoes are recommended. Hiking poles can help on steeper sections and uneven footing.

March 14/2026 - Raven Rock Loop Trail (Keowee-Toxaway State Park)
Raven Rock Loop Trail (Keowee-Toxaway State Park)
Overview:
Distance: ~4.3 miles (loop)
Elevation Gain: ~859 feet
Difficulty: Moderate, with rolling climbs and some uneven terrain
Estimated Hiking Time: About 2–2.5 hours (including breaks)
Trail Surface: Natural forest paths with rocks, roots, creek crossings, and ridge sections
Description:
The Raven Rock Loop Trail at Keowee-Toxaway State Park is a scenic loop that showcases a mix of forest terrain, lakeside views, rocky outcrops, and water features. The trail begins with a crossing over Poe Creek via a natural granite bridge, then climbs out of a valley and follows a ridge offering pleasant wooded hiking before descending toward Lake Keowee. Along the way, you’ll enjoy shaded forest sections, a steady mix of gradual climbs and descents, and a variety of terrain that keeps the hike interesting without being overly strenuous.
Important Considerations:
Trail Difficulty: Moderate. The climb out of the valley and ridge sections provide some steady uphill and downhill stretches. Good conditioning helps, but it’s manageable for most hikers comfortable with moderate terrain.
Navigation: Well-used loop with intersections. A GPS map or AllTrails app helps stay on route.
Footwear & Gear: Sturdy hiking shoes with good traction are recommended due to rocks and roots on the trail. Poles are optional but helpful if you prefer added stability.
