Wilson Child Development Center

Wilson Child Development Center

Since 2019, the Pickens County YMCA has had as a part of its strategic plan the goal of meeting the critical early childhood needs in Easley, Pickens and Powdersville communities.

We are excited to announce the receipt of a major gift from an influential community leader, Jimmy Wilson, that will help our YMCA continue its life-changing work in the Powdersville/Wren community.

The vision for the Wilson CDTC is much more than a childcare center. As a vital change agent for the entire community, there are 3 primary goals:

  1. Offer a world-class education within a Christian worldview that socially develops, emotionally prepares and academically equips them for kindergarten. We believe that the earliest years of a child’s life are critical to their long-term development and success.
  2. Provide resources and an avenue for parents of students and family caretakers not enrolled at the YMCA’s CDTC to be trained and equipped on how to nurture and develop the children in Easley, Pickens and Powdersville. We believe that the family, not the YMCA, should be the nucleus for a child to grow and develop. The YMCA can be a partner in this.
  3. Assist expecting and newborn mothers throughout the journey of pregnancy and the first year of the child’s life. We hope to offer a free family membership to newly expecting mothers to the child’s first birthday so that the community of the YMCA can be a network of support and encouragement during this critical stage. We believe that if we can help equip and support mothers during this wonderful but challenging season, the development of the child and family is greatly enhanced.

The CDTC is estimated to cost $2M-$3M to build and the donation from Jimmy Wilson will begin the effort to make this a reality.

“At this point, we know the need is tremendous, and we want to start building today! We are moving forward with careful planning and prayerfully hoping for more community support to make this a reality,” Collins said.

The Powdersville YMCA serves the community through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The Y offers health and wellness programs for members of all ages, serves our community’s youth through After School, Summer Camp, Y Mentor and Swim Lessons, and offers unique events that provide friends and families opportunities for fun and fellowship.
