Claude Griffin

My name is Claude Griffin, and I am a Cancer Survivor.

When I was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer I was very afraid. I live alone and do not have any family or any one to turn to. My strong faith in Jesus Christ got me through these incredibly hard times.

They started me on radiation treatments to fight the cancer. These treatments drained my strength and stamina to the point that I was so weak that I didn’t want to do much of anything. I kept praying and fighting and began to get better and my PSA numbers began to improve.

Over the last two years the cancer has returned, but I continue to fight.

I had become so weak at this point that I knew I had to do something. I had heard from a friend about LiveStrong At The YMCA, so I submitted a interest form online. The very next day I received a phone call from Dennis Loftis who set up a interview with me to get me going in the program. It has turned out to be one of the best decisions I have made in a long time.

Dennis and Tyra got me through all the paperwork and into the class. I can not begin to tell you how professional and personable they both are. They have done everything they can to help me and the entire class. Dennis always begins class with devotion and prayer, he calls on us to participate and we even have a lady who sings with a beautiful voice.

Dennis and Tyra lead us through cardio workouts and strength training, and then we finish with stretching and fellowship at the end. I especially love when they have the yoga instructor Kelly come in.

I feel so much better now. I am much stronger, and my endurance is much better. I look forward to spending time with my new friends and love working out now.

This program is one of the best things I have ever done, and I truly feel part of a family now at LiveStrongAt The YMCA. And the best news is my PSA numbers are back down again! I would recommend this program to all cancer survivors. This program was at no cost to me, and I realize it is possible through the loving donations made to the YMCA. I encourage any one who reads my story to donate to the YMCA and help others participate in great programs like this one. I know I will be.
